Disadvantages of Free Hosting Service
There are definite advantages to free web hosts, and free web space with no ads is even better. But if you compare free web hosting versus cheap web hosting you may be surprised. This article will cover some pros and cons of free web hosting services. As far as web hosting is concerned, you definitely get what you pay for (and sometimes less than you pay for!) Below are the disadvantages to free web hosts:
Little/No SupportFree web hosting providers generally offer no customer support to their free web hosting customers, and if they do it is low priority. While many free users are new to web hosting, neglectful support can ruin the hosting experience.
Overcrowded ServersFree hosts are not known for their reliability and uptime. Often the servers web hosts put free users on may be overcrowded and slow or even frequently down. Since it is relatively simple to get a free web hosting company started, this article has all rights reserved and is copyright by 100 Best, many free hosts are fly-by-night operations and care little for the long term well being of users files.
Less FeaturesFree web hosting plans usually don't include advanced features, software, and email services that paid ones do. (ex. PHP, MySQL, FTP accounts, and POP email)
Ad BannersTo fund the free hosts, web hosts add an advertisement in the form of a text link, banner or pop-up to free users web sites. Many users find these ads take away from the design of their site, or are a nuisance to their visitors.
Why Free Hosting Services?Free web space with ads vs. cheap web space with no ads. Is free web hosting the best choice for you? Read the pros and cons of free web hosting compared to cheap web hosting then decide if saving a few dollars is worth it for you.
Price is RightFree web hosting providers are great because they are FREE! Everyone wants to spend less when they can. Free web hosts free up cash you might spend on web hosting so you can use it on things that are more important.
Great for Any Level of ExperienceFree web space hosts are perfect for the penny pinching webmaster or those who are new to or just dabbling in building web sites. Some free web hosts cater specifically to new users, or "newbies" as they like to call inexperienced webmasters, with easy to use features, add-ons, templates, and more. Free web hosts for newbies make knowing programming codes, like HTML, unnecessary with WYSIWYG site builders.
Quick and EasyMany free web hosting companies supply online site builders or site templates so users don't even need to use programs like Dreamweaver, or Microsoft FrontPage to build and design a site. Web based this article has all rights reserved and is copyright by 100 Best file managers and upload tools help make a web site 'live' in a jiffy.
Free SubdomainsMany free hosts offer a free sub domain (ex. Yoursite.freehost.com) with hosting so users sites are instantly available and they don't have to wait for domain registration or transfers to have a live site.
Just EnoughFree web hosts provide enough web space, bandwidth, and features for the common user so users don't have to pay for more than they need as is often the case with paid host.
I will try to add atleast 4 to 5 service provider a day.
Shared Hosting
Shared hosting is exactly what it sounds like. Your site shares a web server – the same physical computer - with any number of other sites. Usually, it will share the same IP address with those other sites as well. Shared hosting is a lot like living in a big apartment building. How happy you are will often depend on your neighbors. If the other websites you’re sharing server space cause trouble, it can mean very bad things for your website.
For example, if one of the other sites runs a script that causes the web server to crash, your website (and everyone else’s on that server) will go down. If another site does something to get banned from the search engines and you share the same IP address, your site may be banned as well. This is almost always a very bad thing, and very difficult to recover from.
Normally, a good web host will keep very close tabs on other sites to make sure they aren’t doing anything that will adversely affect the server, but your web hosting company simply can not and will not do anything about the problem of search engine banning. It’s not the hosting company’s fault; it’s just a fact of life.
Dedicated Hosting
Dedicated hosting is like renting a house – the web server is all yours, and you don’t have to worry about other people’s websites causing problems for you. Unless your web host is doing something very strange, your dedicated server will have an IP address that is yours and yours alone. For websites that rely heavily on search engine rankings, this is very important.
When you choose dedicated hosting, you are renting a physical server, the rack space it uses in the datacenter, and the bandwidth used. Not only is this far more expensive than shared hosting, it can also be problematic if you don’t have any experience configuring a web server. Often, the cost of one-on-one technical support is bundled into the cost of dedicated hosting. If you have never set up a web server before, DO NOT attempt to do it without help. For novice webmasters, the cost of the tech support is usually well worth it.
On the other hand, dedicated hosting can be a great option for tech savvy webmasters who have the knowledge but not the upfront cash to buy their own server. Servers usually cost around $10,000, and that’s money that can be better spent on advertising in the initial months. If you can get them to lower the price by doing the normal server administration yourself, all the better. But I cannot stress enough that you MUST know what you are doing, or your website will be in big trouble.
Making the Right Hosting Choice
So when does it make more sense to use shared hosting for an e-commerce website? The short answer is when you’re starting a new site and you’re on a budget. When I started my first website, I didn’t know if it was going to make any money at all. Profitability was the most important thing to me, and shared hosting was a good way to get proof of concept without risking my entire savings account.
Now that things are looking positive, my concern for keeping the site up and running is growing. At this point, I’m looking for dedicated hosting to help me sleep a little better at night. If things continue to go well, I’ll spring for my own server in a colocation facility.
If you have a decent budget for your website and want to jump right into dedicated hosting, go right ahead. It’s not a bad idea if you have the cash and want to dedicate yourself fully to business development, since it’s one less thing to worry about.
As I said, it’s a very personal choice and depends heavily on your technical expertise and your business plan. If you’re still having trouble deciding, I would recommend looking into Virtual Private Servers, or VPS. VPS is a relatively new middle ground between shared and dedicated hosting.
Virtual Private Servers Hosting
VPS Web Hosting is a middle ground between shared hosting and dedicated hosting. Some say it provides the best of both worlds, others insist that it’s nothing more than marketing hype. To truly understand VPS hosting, we’ll have to take a closer look at what it is and the technology that makes it possible.
Like traditional shared hosting plans, VPS hosting keeps several web sites (multiple customers) on a single physical machine. The big difference between shared hosting and VPS hosting is in the software running on the web server. The VPS software partitions each customer out into their own "Virtual Server", each complete with their own operating system. Each virtual machine is completely independent from the other. You cannot cross between them, and they act exactly as if they were completely independent machines.
By insulating each customer within their own virtual sandbox, VPS hosting eliminates most of the problems you tend to encounter with shared hosting. If someone else is running a script that runs amok, they can only take down their website – not yours. And since you almost always get your own IP address, you won’t suffer the effects when someone else gets their site blacklisted from the search engines.
From the web hosting company’s perspective, VPS hosting is a great technology. It allows them to safely host more customers on a single box, which is more efficient AND allows them to offer better hosting for less. Many sites are only able to utilize a small portion of a high-end web server’s processing capability, and VPS technology allows them to do so in a much safer environment. VPS is a very good compromise between shared hosting and dedicated hosting, and the technology really works.
Of course, VPS isn’t for everyone. While it’s cheaper than dedicated hosting, it is substantially more expensive than shared hosting. If you’re running a personal website with a reputable hosting company, shared hosting is going to suit you just fine. There’s really no need to pay the extra premium. But if you’re running an e-commerce site, VPS is a big step up in security and reliability for much less than dedicated hosting.
If you are planning to build a small personal website or big community website you need a hosting account. But these two sites wont fit with a single hosting type.
Generally if you search for a hosting provider you will find different plans starting from $1 per month to $100 per month or even more, single service with different prices. Then
Which Hosting service should i buy?
A big question for a person who is going to start a new website and the answer is also not so simple it involves lots of technical things in it to choose the best one.
But i dont want to confuse you with many technical things i will give a brief introduction to different factors which effect the price of the hosting.
There are different types of web hosting services available in market
Shared hosting:
This is most common hosting used by number of websites. In this type you will get a share a single server hardware resources with others clients. In this type the software maintaince and upgradation is maintained by the hosting provider only. You don’t have the control over the server but you have full control over your website using some control panel softwares like cPanel or Plex. There are many more factors which decide the price of your shared hosting which is explained in detailes below.
Usefull for Small and Medium Sites and Email domains, Can be used as backup server for your data or main server
Virtual private server hosting:
This is same like a shared hosting but acts like a Dedicated Host, you have control over the server also.
Useful for Websites which needs complete control over server and its resources, To run web applications without adversely affecting other clients or not affected by other clients
Dedicated Hosting:
This is just like taking a computer for lease, you don`t share any resources with any one. This is mainly useful for large web applications with heavy traffic. This hosting server needs some person with knowledge on OS and Remote day to day maintaince of servers. It takes some time to setup also contains setup fee.
Managed Web Hosting:
This is just like a dedicated server but it also provides additional functionalities like reporting and monitoring, load balancing, security, setup, system administration and software updates. Which reduces your server maintainces charge.
Server Co-Location:
This is nothing but building your own server and placing it in the data center of a provider. This requires most efficient persons to maintain your server.
Any Hosting service again have different prices depending upon the following factors
1. Hosting Space:
This is the space provided for you to place your website. Normally this space ranges from 1GB or less to 1TB or more…
For a normal website 1GB is more than enough as we can store more thousands of pages in 1GB.
Sites containing more photos or videos want to go for more space. Now a days space is not so costly and it wont effect much on the final price.
2. Contract period:
Many Hosting providers will give you a option to buy for 6 months to 5 years. If you buy for more period the cost decreases. But if you are choosing the new service provider dont go for too long contracts as it may be problem if the support is not so good.
3. OS Type:
Mainly you have two OS options one is linux hosting and second one is windows hosting. As windows is not a free OS obviously a server with windows will cost little bit more than linux. For hosting .NET applications it is mandatory to go for windows hosting, Others can choose linux hosting, you dont need much technical knowledge on linux to run a website on linux as it is maintained by your service provider.
4. Monthly Bandwidth:
This is major thing which many people ignore to consider and which will add unforseen costs to your budget. . Many Service providers restrict your monthly data transfer. Some providers will charge you extra as you crossed the limit and some will block your site. Be careful before choosing this to avoid add unforeseen costs to your budget.
Some hosting providers will give you 10GB of space but only 30GB of monthly bandwidth which will make your web space useless
5. Database Support:
You need a database when you are going for a dynamic website with programming, if your are going with a static designer based website you just skip this.
Many service providers will provide MySQL database as it is free and stable. But they limit the number of allowed databases. So check with your developer with this issues.
If you want MSSQL or ORACLE database servers then you want spend some more dollars to get it.
6. Sub-Domains:
subdomain is a domain that is part of a larger domain. Ex: mail.google.com
Some providers will restrict the number of subdomains you can create but this is not a major thing to consider as most provider will provide more than 10, which is more than enough.
Note: Remember sub-domain is differ from addon domain addon domain will give you a chance to host different websites in a single hosting service and share the available resources.
7. Softwares Installed:
This is also a crucial thing to consider before choosing a hosting server because if you are going for a shared hosting you cant install softwares after you brought the hosting account so check once again whether all the required softwares are installed with you service provider. This may effect your cost.
So i think now you can choose a better hosting service provider by analysing the above factors please give comments on different hosting providers so that it is usefull for other in choosing the best hosting in no time.
